چکیده

Abstract The silverside sailfin, Telmatherina sarasinorum Kottelat 1991, is an endemic fish that lives in Matano Lake, South Sulawesi. purpose of this study to analyze the stomach contents T. sarasinorum. was conducted from March 2018 February 2019. Samples were collected using bag nets (with mesh size 0.5 inches). (N=2124 individuals) consisted 1318 male and 806 female with a total body length ranging 30.1 89.85 mm. Gastrointestinal analyzed Index Preponderance (IP), niche breadth, feeding overlap. data processed based on gender temporally spatially. results showed fish’s main diet insects (IP 71.04% males, 95.40% females) eggs 26.04% 3.71% females). value breadth males females low, 0.0005-0.2291 (male) 0.0048-0.2295 (female) indicating species specializes utilizing food. There high competition for food between which indicated by fairly large overlap value, 0.7767 0.7725

Body shape vs. colour associated initial divergence in the Telmatherina radiation in Lake Matano, Sulawesi, Indonesia.

Highly polymorphic colouration patterns are often associated with sexual selection in fish and can be the initial cause of divergence among closely related taxa. Here we use genetic, body colour and geometric morphometric data collected on 118 fish from Lake Matano, Sulawesi, Indonesia to test if colouration is the initial cause of divergence in the radiating Telmatherina genus. Results reveal ...

Sneaky egg-eating in Telmatherina sarasinorum, an endemic fish from Sulawesi

The Malili Lakes of south-central Sulawesi, Indonesia, recently hailed as ‘Wallace’s Dreamponds’ (Herder et al., 2006a), are gaining recognition as a powerful model system for studying adaptive radiation in a variety of organisms, including crabs, snails (von Rintelen et al., 2004; von Rintelen & Glaubrecht, 2005) and fishes (Roy et al., 2004; Gray & McKinnon, 2006; Herder et al., 2006a). Adaptive sympatric speciation of polychromatic "roundfin" sailfin silverside fish in Lake Matano (Sulawesi).

The significance of sympatric speciation is one of the most controversial topics in evolutionary biology. Theory suggests that different factors can lead to speciation in full geographical contact, including selection and nonrandom mating. Strict criteria have been established for assessing sympatric speciation, which have been met in only a very few cases. Here, we investigate differentiation ...

Biogeochemistry of manganese in ferruginous Lake Matano, Indonesia

This study explores Mn biogeochemistry in a stratified, ferruginous lake, a modern analogue to ferruginous oceans. Intense Mn cycling occurs in the chemocline where Mn is recycled at least 15 times before sedimentation. The product of biologically catalyzed Mn oxidation in Lake Matano is birnessite. Although there is evidence for abiotic Mn reduction with Fe(II), Mn reduction likely occurs thro...

Adaptive radiation and hybridization in Wallace's Dreamponds: evidence from sailfin silversides in the Malili Lakes of Sulawesi.

Adaptive radiations are extremely useful to understand factors driving speciation. A challenge in speciation research is to distinguish forces creating novelties and those relevant to divergence and adaptation. Recently, hybridization has regained major interest as a potential force leading to functional novelty and to the genesis of new species. Here, we show that introgressive hybridization i...
